This week I am proud to present Ms. Cherelle J, reppin the west coast to the fullest, Riverside, CA to be exact. In her one short year of modeling she has been featured on several club flyers and even been the leading lady in the fashion show at her college. Ms. Cherelle does indeed have a bright future ahead. In between shoots and a busy school schedule, Cherelle found the time to drop a little light on modeling and the industry. Check out the interview below.
DJ Grain: What’s your name?
Cherelle: Cherelle J aka SoHollywood.
DJ Grain: Where are you from?
Cherelle: I am originally from Riverside, CA but now I reside in Fresno, CA because it is a good place where I can finish school and get that under my belt before moving to LA.
DJ Grain: How many years have you been modeling?
Cherelle: Ive been modeling for about a year now.
DJ Grain: What are the misconceptions people commonly have about models that are untrue?
Cherelle: A big misconception about models is that we are all stupid and anorexic. I personally have always been very into school and take pride in my education and I have also been naturally slim all my life without starving myself, anyone who knows me knows that food is probably my best friend lol.
DJ Grain: What shows, videos, magazines, etc. have you been featured in?
Cherelle: I havent been featured in any videos or magazines....YET.
DJ Grain: What photographers have you worked with?
Cherelle: I have worked with Feather Da-Wyz, Aubre Cummings of Studio5nine photography and Ken of Kens photos.
DJ Grain: What photographers would you like to work with?
Cherelle: I want to work with photographers who have strong unique fierce images, portray me in the best light possible and who can help me build my portfolio.
DJ Grain: Can you describe the grind of a model trying to break into the industry?
Cherelle: It is definitely not as easy as you think. You start out trying to get booked for something but don’t have any professional photos to show to even get booked. And if you do want some good photos to start with, you’re going to have to pay about two to four hundred for them. Most people don’t have that kind of money so you’re looking for someone to shoot you for free. And if u get lucky enough to find someone they expect you to know everything, how to pose, how to work your face etc. and some photographers are ass holes, you get critiqued on every part of your body and the industry is not nice with their comments at all. You really have to have a tough skin and brush off the things they say because it can really get to you and ruin your self esteem.
DJ Grain: Any words for the ladies out there that have aspirations of entering the modeling industry?
Cherelle: Its not about what you know its about who you know! Yes I’m intelligent but intelligence doesn’t get good pictures. Be sociable and outgoing with people, network your butt off and get people on your side who can help you, other people know people so the bigger your circle of hard working positive individuals, the farther you will get.
DJ Grain: How can people contact you for booking?
Cherelle: I can be reached through my:
