RAAAAAAAANDY!

If you're in Canada or the USA, you're lucky enough to be able to see Judd Apatow's new movie Funny People on July 31st. Those of us in Australia need to wait until September 10th... not cool.

Funny People is Judd Apatow's third film, his previous ones being the hilarious "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" - two of the funniest in this new era of comedy films. It stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Eric Bana... but this post is all about Aziz Ansari.

Aziz plays Randy, a stand-up comedian on the rise. The team behind the film have put out three viral videos so far to introduce us all to Raaaaaaaandy (that's 8 A's). They are classic. Watch below.

Model Feature: Ms. Gelisa Asieba

This week I am proud to present Ms. Gelisa Asieba, representing straight out of the United Kingdom. She is a rookie in the game, but has taken all her opportunities and has began making her mark on the industry. Not only is she going to be gracing runways far and near, but don't be surprised if you her with her own clothing line as well. Luckily, I was able to catch up with Ms. Asieba for in order to get a piece of mind on the modeling industry. Check the interview below.

DJ Grain: What’s your name?
Gelisa: Gelisa Asieba aka G.G.

DJ Grain: Where are you from?
Gelisa: I was born in London, but currently in Birmingham.

DJ Grain: How many years have you been modeling?
Gelisa: This is my first year professionally working as a model , which is part time at the moment as I am studying a degree in Fashion Retail Management.

DJ Grain: What are the misconceptions people commonly have about models that are untrue?
Gelisa: The misconceptions people have about me is that I don't eat and I'm a diva lol ....I was always naturally slim and I eat like a horse so it is sometimes unfair when the media portrays skinner models as anorexic, when they are just born that way. Personality on the other hand if you don't know someone I have learnt not to judge them as you cant read a book from its front cover!

DJ Grain: What shows, videos, magazines, etc. have you been featured in?
Gelisa: I was in a fashion show for New Look charity event in March and Asiana magazine fashion show in January. Currently at the moment a finalist in the top 20 models for a competition Talent 2009 in Birmingham.
I was also recently on the front cover for Nubia Magazine May/June issue.

DJ Grain: What photographers have you worked with?
Gelisa: I have worked with a number of photographers but my main favourites were David Dwayne, Terri lee shield and C-dat photography.

DJ Grain: What photographers would you like to work with?
Gelisa: One day I would love to work with Lume photography,Tony Valadez,Scott Miron and Luic Cedeno. They are very unique and take dynamic pictures with a story.

DJ Grain: Can you describe the grind of a model trying to break into the industry?
Gelisa: The grind is extremely hard if you don't know where you are going with your modeling career , there are so many paths to take such as commercial and glamour. I have chosen to aim hopefully to be a high fashion model, which demands being unique, eye catching and a great personality. There are many people in the industry who are just aiming to get as much money as they can from aspiring models. So in modelling you always have to be one step ahead and know the ins and outs of the industry to be taken seriously.

DJ Grain: Any words for the ladies out there that have aspirations of entering the modelling industry?
Gelisa: Modeling is a very competitive industry being and loving yourself is the main foundation. Believing in yourself will assist others to also believe in you, don't watch what other models are doing being individual is the best way forward! Constantly promote yourself wherever you can and always remember your self respect.

Mr. Miranda & Speek Greene - The Wonderful World of Mr. Miranda

Mr Miranda and Speek Greene

Mr Miranda and Speek Greene

Ah shit...more HiPNOTT action. We don't quit, it's not a game, people! Peep:

HiPNOTT Recording artist, Speek Greene, plans to release three mixtapes before his highly anticipated full length album, The Long Look, drops in the fall. For his first mixtape, he linked up with Phoenix emcee Mr. Miranda. If the name Miranda sounds familiar, it should as he is the nephew of the infamous Ernesto Miranda. Still not ringing a bell? How about Miranda vs. Arizona?

Anyway, no gimmicks needed for this mixtape. The Wonderful World of Mr. Miranda brings us dope rhymes from Miranda and outstanding production from Speek Greene. I’ve been vibing to this mix all weekend, that I’m thinking of doing a sample set to it.

Don’t forget, The Long Look from Speek Greene and Mozaic (executively produced by Kev Brown) coming in October. You can catch Speek Greene and Kev Brown on tour now!

Halftime Hip Hop Show Interview with Kevin Nottingham

Halftime Hip Hop Show Interview with Kevin Nottingham

Another thing I'm slippin' on. Kev worded me up about this, totally forgot. About to check it now. Big ups to DJ BlacqueStarr for supporting both Kev and HiPNOTT Records, we're mad excited right now. Check what Kev had to say:

Friday night, DJ BlacqueStarr of WUOG 90.5 FM (the University of Georgia’s radio station) dedicated a portion of his show to HiPNOTT Records. We premiered the second single from Nobody Famous‘ Order Up! Vol 3, “Electric.” DJ BlacqueStarr also played some new music from Cee & Bekah, as well as a track from G.C. and Tokyo Cigar’s new EP, The Cave Kingz.

But the highlight of the night was when I called into the show. This was my first on air interview and I’d like to thank DJ BlacqueStarr for giving me the opportunity and giving my artists some shine. We spoke for at least a half an hour about KevinNottingham.com, the label, our upcoming releases, the site’s remix contests, and we even delved into the future of music, digging, etc.

So in case you missed the show, you can listen to the interview after the cut. If you wanna check the whole show, which I highly recommend, you can do that here.

Cee & Bekah - Can't Get Enough (The Soul Movement Volume 3 leak)

Cee & Bekah

I can't believe I didn't post this last week. I'm slippin'.

The homie Kev leaked our second joint from 'The Soul Movement Volume 3' last week, called 'Can't Get Enough' (produced by K-Os, over his 'Love Song' joint) and a few other blogs picked it up (see below), which was great to see.

Check it out on Kevin Nottingham's blog. So it seems we're dropping the news that none other than Mick Boogie and Terry Urban are mixing our new joint, which is fucking huge to say the least. And it's dropping through HiPNOTT Records, followed closely by The Soul Movement Originals, an album of all our original beats from The Soul Movement mixtape series (as Volume 3 is the final drop).

The Cave Kingz - Before There Was Fire

Photobucket

Photobucket

Ahhh shit...some more free music fo' that ass. This time it's from our HiPNOTT Records labelmate G.C. and the homie Tokyo Cigar (who produced a joint on our recent Remix Album), who come together (pause) as The Cave Kingz. Peep...

"This morning we have a free EP release from two of the DMV's most talented up and comers. HiPNOTT producer G.C. has teamed up with emcee/producer Tokyo Cigar to create an EP reminiscent of grimey 90s hip hop. The lyrics are raw and the production knocks. Upon first listen, you may hear a strong Wu-Tang influence.

These 5 tracks are just a morsel of hip hop that you will hear from these two before the summer is out. HiPNOTT’s own G.C. has been mad at work and has two more releases coming soon. A hip hop album with emcee MaG and an R&B EP with HiPNOTT’s First Lady, Dasha.

Tokyo Cigar, on the other hand, is a master at both the beats and on the mic. Leaving the production solely to G.C. for this release, Tokyo steps front and center behind the mic. Emcees, look out for KevinNottingham.com's ever MC Contest hosted by Tokyo Cigar on the beats next month!

And if you think we’re the only site that recognizes these great talents, you’re wrong. G.C. was recently featured at BigMouthsOnline and Tokyo Cigar had a feature over at WYDU. Props to both of these guys doing it up big!"

Model Feature: Marshana H

This week I am proud to present Ms. Marshana H. She is a 22 year old small town Pennsylvania girl with a big personality. Now she has moved from a little town in Pennsylvania to a big city in Texas in order to advance her modeling career. When Ms. Marshana is not rippin the runways or photo shoots she is working nonstop to obtain her bachelor's degree in interior design. Check out the interview with Marshana below.

DJ Grain: Where are you from?
Marshana: Small town outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

DJ Grain: How many years have you been modeling?
Marshana: A little over a year.

DJ Grain: What are the misconceptions people commonly have about models that are untrue?
Marshana: People often tend to assume that models are superficial and uneducated. Though I cannot speak for everyone, I can say that looks only last so long and can only take you so far. I personally do everything I can to absorb knowledge from various venues so that I'm a better business women.

DJ Grain: What shows, videos, magazines, etc. have you been featured in?
Marshana: I was one of the first models featured in the GlamModelz online magazine. (Check it out http://glammodelz.com/glam/?p=167) I've worked several promotional events such as wine tastings and fragrance events for Axe and Estee Lauder.

DJ Grain: What photographers have you worked with?
Marshana: Jeff of Visions East Photography, Terry of Hughes Photography, Scott Cross, Chris of Chris Chapa art, Barry Simpson, Ron of Big Shot Photography...

DJ Grain: What photographers would you like to work with?
Marshana: There's a ton of them, state side and beyond. I'm interested in working with anyone with a great vision who I feel I can grow and benefit from.

DJ Grain: Can you describe the grind of a model trying to break into the industry?
Marshana: I'm no expert by any means, but for me it's just about constantly pushing myself. Pretty face does not always translate into a pretty picture. Knowing this, when it's go time on the shoot, I get into the zone and realize that leaving without plenty of shots to choose from is not an option for me. No one likes their time to be wasted, so I bring my energy to the table and I expect the same of those I work with. I'm still fairly new so it's a constant learning experience, but I love every moment of it.

DJ Grain: Any words for the ladies out there that have aspirations of entering the modeling industry?
Marshana: Be smart, strong, and mostly be yourself. If somethings doesn't feel right, go with your gut. Check references. Practice, like you would a sport! If it's not within your comfort zone, it'll show in the pictures. It's important to think outside the box and push yourself, but still you should stick to your morals and what feels right for you.

DJ Grain: How can people contact you for booking?
Marshana: I can be reached by email lovelyladydivine@yahoo.com

Drake - Best I Ever Had video

Here's the video for Drake's big single, 'Best I Ever Had'. Apparently it's directed by Kanye West, which I could believe based on the broad-factor. Pretty damn uninspired clip, and Drake's acting left a lot to be desired (well, he was on Degrassi, but I ain't hating). Anyway, peep game, this joint is finna be huge.
